\n\nDeryn Thorpe is a fanatical gardener, who is passionate about\ncommunicating her love of gardening to others.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nShe has worked as a journalist for more than 30 years, writes regular\narticles for\/Gardening Australia Magazine\/, a gardening column and\ngarden stories for\/The West Australian\/newspaper and online publications.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nShe presents garden talkback on ABC and commercial radio talkback, is a\nvivacious and popular speaker at garden clubs and community gatherings,\nruns gardening workshops, has edited garden books and worked as a garden\nTV presenter.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nDeryn also works in her family’s revegetation and landscaping\nbusiness Plantation and Landcare Services<\/a>\nwhich plants trees around Perth and the\nsouth west wheatbelt of WA and landscapes home gardens.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nShe volunteered for six years with Open Gardens Australia, most of the\ntime as chair of selectors, and has opened her own beautiful, cottage\nstyle garden to the public. She was instrumental in the 2016 formation\nof Open Gardens West Coast.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nIn 2011 she was made a Life Member of the Horticultural Media\nAssociation Australia (HMAA) and in 2015 a Honourary Member of the Nursery\nand Garden Industry of WA (NGIWA) for services to these organisations.\nShe has won the prestigious HMAA Paper Laurel for the best garden story\npublished in an Australian newspaper or magazine.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nDeryn loves showing people the world and started working as a European\ntour guide in the mid 1980ies. Today she takes tours around Australia\nand overseas for ASA Cultural Tours<\/a>, discovering great food, culture and\nbeautiful gardens.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nIn 2017 she started the weekly podcast All The Dirt<\/a> with her colleague\nSteve Wood to inspire people to connect with the soil, provide the\nskills and confidence so people can become new or better gardeners and\nprovide an outlet to discuss the concepts of sustainability and good food.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
